Out of a total of 173 novels considered by the jury, ten have been longlisted, among them three books published by Beletrina: A Silence Full of the Wind by Gabriela Babnik, The Woman With a Silver Eye by Katarina Marinčič and Tide by Ana Schnabl. This is the first nomination for Ana Schnabl and the fifth one for Gabriela Babnik, while Katarina Marinčič previously won the award in 2002 for her novel Disguised Harmony.
The Kresnik Award was conceived by the writer Vlado Žabot and named after the Slavic deity Kresnik associated with the summer solstice when the sun reaches its highest point in the sky. It was awarded for the first time on 23 June 1991, when it was awarded to Lojze Kovačič for his novel Crystalline Time. The winner of the 33rd Kresnik award will be announced, as is tradition, on Rožnik Hill in Ljubljana on Midsummer’s Eve.
