The screenplay for the film based on the book was written by the director Marko Naberšnik and Bronja Žakelj herself. The film will star Lea Cok, Jurij Zrnec, Tjaša Železnik and Anica Dobra and will be filmed in Slovenia, Italy and Croatia.
According to the author, the film, like the book, will try to capture the spirit of the times in which she grew up. The story will take us back in time to the last decades of the last millennium, reminding us nostalgically of all its small and great joys, while telling a poignant and compelling story about a family. Whites Wash at Ninety is, above all, a story of growing up, of facing loss and illness, of overcoming fears and of everything that we do not want to see until we are inevitably faced with it.
Bronja Žakelj (1969) has a graduate degree in journalism, but her love of writing disappeared somewhere between the lines of magazine articles and editorial offices of daily newspapers. She found her first job in marketing and today works in banking. Since there is not much space for creativity in the world of finance, and her love of writing had never been entirely forgotten, she decided it was time to write her first book. Whites Wash at Ninety was published by Beletrina in September 2018.
